And he's off...but so am I

We're in countdown phase at the Pena house. Oscar leaves for Iraq (again) on Friday. Hopefully this will be the last time. I think this time will go by faster because there is a lot going on in the next three months...Caitlin and Mick moving out, my trip to Washington D.C. as chaperone for fifth graders, and my dream trip to Spain. I'm so excited about it. I don't know whether I'm more excited about the actual trip to Spain or the fact that I finally carried out a goal! But either way, Viva Espana! I've been sitting in my office trying to do work, with Spain on the brain.

It will be so liberating to go to another country and travel by myself. (Note: I hope I carry out this plan too!) And there will be so much to see. I am scared that two weeks won't be enough to satiate my newfound taste for travel. I imagine myself the streetsmart American girl traveling the streets of Spain with nothing but a backpack and some good walking shoes. Taking a bike ride through the countryside and stopping for a glass of wine and tapas.

Then I immediately become concerned with this plan because a backpack doesn't carry nearly as many pairs of shoes as I may find necessary for every event I intend to be a part of! I'm already thinking about the wardrobe. What to wear? Those Europeans may be trend-setters, but I am a sale rack girl. I may have to break down and buy some stylish ropa to wear on my vacacion.
